Top 10 Videos of 2023

2023 was a big year for YSI. We celebrated 75 years of excellence and scientific innovation, a testament to our commitment to environmental stewardship and the application of good science. We also launched new products, including the 9800 Photometer, a portable solution for the field or laboratory, and the YSI Turb® 750 T Benchtop Turbidimeter, an EPA 180.1-compliant instrument for environmental, chemical, petroleum, food, and beverage laboratories.

Going beyond product launches and instrumentation, we found new ways to support customers working to solve some of the world’s toughest water challenges. We overhauled our Customer Support Hub, making it easy to contact our technology experts to get free virtual help on your projects, find a distributor in your region, register for your warranty, and more!

We also created many new support videos in 2023—from maintenance tutorials to water quality monitoring insights on mussel farms to overviews of versatile laboratory products. This blog counts down the top 10 most popular videos we released last year. Enjoy the highlight reel!

1) Welcome to EXO University

In June, we launched EXO University—a comprehensive, on-demand training program for our EXO water quality sondes. The idea behind this training program was to create an easily accessible, free video series detailing everything from instrument setupcalibrationmaintenance, and storage of your sondes, sensors, and accessories.

These short, how-to videos are available on-demand, so you can go at your own pace and only watch the videos you need. In our #1 video from 2023, join Catie Marchand and Zach Henderson as they provide an overview of the program.

Check out the EXO Optical Dissolved Oxygen Calibration video for a quick peek at the series; besides Welcome to EXO University, it’s the most viewed video in the program!

2) YSI IQ SensorNet System-Wide Wastewater Process Monitoring & Control

The future of wastewater monitoring is here. And it only takes one single product.

IQ SensorNet is a plant-wide network of sensors and analyzers that simultaneously collects data from up to 20 sensors on a single system. The accurate data acquired from IQ SensorNet can improve your facility by assuring compliance, improving treatment efficiency, and minimizing energy and chemical usage.

Watch the overview video to explore the capabilities and learn how our system of controllers, modules, and sensors can be customized to meet your facility’s needs. Learn more on the YSI IQ SensorNet page!

3) Webinar | Best Practices for Online Sensor Maintenance Part 1

This four-part webinar series related to sensor maintenance was very popular in 2023. In part 1, application engineer Ben Barker provides live demonstrations on properly caring for your sensors and shares maintenance-related tips for each sensor type.

This webinar lasts 50 minutes with 10 minutes of Q&A and is jam-packed with valuable information. After watching the webinar, you’re eligible to receive a certificate awarding 0.1 CEUs (1 PDH) from the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET). IACET CEUs are often transferable, so check with your local association to see if IACET credit is accepted.

Feel free to check out part two of the series, which covers the ViSolid (TSS), VisoTurb (turbidity), UV-Vis (nitrate, COD, BOD, etc.), and IFL (sludge level) sensors. Watch part three of the series if you’re interested in Alyza IQ (ammonium, orthophosphate) and 3017M (chlorine) wet-chemistry analyzers. Or part four of the series to learn how to create, implement, and execute preventative maintenance programs for online analytical instrumentation.

4) How to Select a Handheld Dissolved Oxygen Meter

From aquaculture to environmental monitoring to wastewater treatment, selecting a reliable and accurate dissolved oxygen meter to meet your requirements is essential.

In this video, product expert Katherine Vela shares the importance of instrument selection for your application. You can also learn more on the Pro Series Handhelds page!

We also recommend checking out Katherine’s overview on YSI ProODO vs ProSolo Handheld Meters, another popular video in 2023. See why the ProSolo is a perfect replacement for a ProODO field meter.

5) Webinar | Environment Act 2021 - Data Uncertainty

In November 2021, an innovative framework for environmental protection became law in England. This legislation—formally called the Environment Act 2021—aims to improve air and water quality, tackle waste, increase recycling, halt species decline, and improve our natural environment.

In this webinar, our experts discuss the new legislation and its impacts in the UK and worldwide, their guidance on overcoming data uncertainty, and information on sensing technology commonly used in catchment monitoring.

6) MultiLab Benchtop Instruments | Overview

Laboratory benchtops are often cluttered with various instruments, each with a different user interface and measurement requirements. Add sensors (plus cables), and the lab can become challenging to keep organized and running efficiently.

In our #6 video from 2023, hear from Xylem Laboratory Solutions Product Manager Ben Sutter as he shares an overview of our MultiLab product line and how you might benefit from adding a system to your lab. With the MultiLab, measure up to 25 parameters with a single instrument, including BOD/DO, pH, ORP, conductivity, and more. We even have wireless sensor options if you want to eliminate cables.

You can also learn more on the MultiLab 4010-3 page!

7) Data Buoy for Real-Time Aquaculture | Water Quality and Current Speed

Water quality data is invaluable to marine farmers. Things like water temperature, chlorophyll, and salinity are all measures that can help improve the growth of aquatic life. Mussel farmers in Jervis Bay and Eden are studying water quality to help increase productivity, better understand the water column, and possibly expand aquaculture into the future.

With an industry-wide shift towards high-quality data collection and live monitoring of water quality environments, farmers can become more efficient and improve their sustainability with proper technology and equipment. Watch our team launch a Data Buoy 1750 with an EXO Multiparameter Sonde to measure pH, dissolved oxygen, turbidity, and algae to help this mussel farm.

8) SonTek Webinar | Top Six Questions by SonTek ADCP Customers

Collecting discharge data with an ADCP requires a lot of consideration—moving boat vs. stationary, entering a correct transducer depth, when to do a compass calibration and more!

In this webinar, our application experts cover crucial topics essential for hydrologists, hydrometrists, hydrographers, water resource managers, or anyone responsible for collecting discharge data.

9) YSI 9220 TOC Analyzer | Overview

Developed from over 50 years of experience in measuring TOC for water quality monitoring, we’re proud to introduce the 9220 Total Organic Carbon (TOC) analyzer! Leveraging YSI’s heated persulfate and NDIR technology, the 9220 provides unmatched performance, reliability, versatility, and ease of use.

In this video, TOC expert John F. Welsh, Jr., Ph. D., explains some of the key benefits of why the 9220, the successor to the well-loved 9210 TOC analyzer, is so popular for process water management and source water monitoring.

10) Site Selection | Chapter 2 | SonTek ADCP

Dive into selecting the right site for your SonTek ADCP measurements! Learn about ideal deployment conditions, ensuring informed decisions for maximizing hydrological data collection effectiveness.

This video falls within our comprehensive ADCP video training series, Guide to Collecting Discharge Data with a SonTek ADCP! Whether you’re a seasoned hydrologist or just starting in the field, this series is your go-to resource for mastering the art of accurate discharge data collection using SonTek ADCP technology.
