Collect hundreds of square meters of spatial surface water data in minutes with this amazingly light, portable, and easy-to-use platform. The rQPOD is a modular, remote surface vehicle system. It can be purchased with Xylem’s torrent boards optimized to carry YSI and SonTek sensors, with optional Side Scan Sonar. It can also be used to convert SonTek’s HydroBoard II and similar boards into a remotely-operated vehicle.

  • Overview

    The YSI rQPOD is a lightweight, easy-to-assemble propulsion system that can fit to many board-style platforms. It allows users to collect data over a large spatial area in minutes, and in areas otherwise inaccessible. The 2.4 GHz remote control allows operators to control the system from up to 250 meters with a clear line of sight, with real-time data visualization options that allow users to make mission changes and decisions on the spot.

    The rQPOD offers users data collection options from logging data directly to a device to viewing data in real-time utilizing either a Bluetooth or Wi-Fi connection. Opting for a real-time data connection affords users the ability to review data as it’s collected and identify areas of interest which allows them the ability to perform more intensive surveys of hot spots to get a better understanding of what may be happening. 

    YSI offers users the ability to purchase the rQPOD for installation on an existing platform or to purchase a complete package from YSI including the board. YSI has purpose-built torrent boards for optimal stability as they carry Xylem sensors where you want them. There are 3 unique torrent boards; TBX, TB7, and the DUO. The TBX is designed for the SonTek RS5 ADCP, providing it a small, portable platform, ideal for carrying from location to location. The TB7 is designed to work with 1 standard sensor offering such as the SonTek M9 ADCP HydroSurveyor or an EXO Sonde. The DUO can carry both the M9 and the EXO at the same time, combining hydrographic and water quality analyses into one platform.
