Ammonium and nitrate sensors based on ion selective electrode (ISE) technology are now widely available for process monitoring of wastewater treatment. The advantage of ISE technology is that Operators can obtain continuous, reliable data about nitrification and denitrification anywhere in the wastewater process without replenishing reagents or filtration mechanisms. As with all types of equipment, the challenge is to learn the technology sufficiently to know what steps to take to achieve reliable measurements without excessive effort.
