Nominate a Water Hero

Who's Minding the Planet (#WMTP) is more than a tagline, it's a way of doing business. A way we work with scientists, engineers, and other water heroes who live it everyday. We’d love for you to nominate your water hero on the form on this page (even if it’s yourself). You determine what constitutes a water hero and who you feel is working to mind the planet and mind our most precious natural resource – water. Who's Minding the Planet? | YSI

We’ll choose entries and provide the possibility of being featured in Mission: Water Magazine to highlight them and their story. That’s right, we’ll work with the chosen water heroes to produce a professional story/layout, and possible cover spot, about what they do, who they are, and where they work so everyone can share in their efforts to mind the planet.

They could join some amazing water heroes we've highlighted in the magazine such as Dr. Tracy Fanara, Philippe Cousteau and Dr. Philip Klotzbach just to do a little name dropping.

We encourage you to watch the videos below about water quality, water scarcity, and the abundance of water to help guide your thoughts about some of the issues we're all battling and how the #waterheroes you know fit into this battle and who deserves more recognition for their efforts.

You can also share your Who's Minding the Planet stories and pictures on social channels with the hashtags #WMTP and #waterheroes for a chance to win some cool swag. We'll occasionally choose some winners and send you some cool stuff.

Let’s celebrate #waterheroes who are minding the planet every day!

Water Quality | Who’s Minding the Planet?

Water quality issues are a growing challenge worldwide. The water quality video highlights issues with unforeseen pollutants in surface waters, especially source water. It’s estimated, globally, the number of lakes with harmful algal blooms will increase by at least 20% until 2050. (UN Water) Nominate your water hero who may be addressing these issues!

Water Scarcity | Who’s Minding the Planet?

Water scarcity issues continue to affect large portions of the global population. The water scarcity video highlights the effect of this issue. With the existing climate change scenario, by 2030, water scarcity in some arid and semi-arid places will displace between 24 million and 700 million people. Water Abundance | Who’s Minding the Planet?

The abundance of water, or water-related disasters, are becoming more frequent and more and more intense. The water abundance video  brings some of these issues to light. About 90% of all natural disasters are water-related. Over a recent 20-year period, floods accounted for 43% of all documented natural disasters, affecting 2.3 billion people, killing 157,000 and causing US$662 billion in damage.
