OI Analytical Analyzer Overview

Continuous Flow Chemistry Analyzers for Challenging Analytical Applications

OI Analytical, a Xylem brand, designs and manufactures laboratory, online, and field instruments for environmental, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, water quality, and food and beverage applications. For years, laboratories have turned to OI Analytical for accurate, reliable continuous flow analyzers.

Our Automated Wet Chemistry Analyzers, also known as Continuous Flow Analyzers, have been designed as modular systems to meet the needs of laboratories of every size. Whether your laboratory is processing a few samples or large volumes of samples, our portfolio has you covered.

We validate the hardware configuration and performance of every method supplied with the FS 3700 analyzer, providing users a total analysis solution. Methods for aqueous samples, soil, or plant extracts are available to support environmental compliance monitoring, process optimization, and research applications.

What is Continuous Flow Analysis?

Continuous flow analyzers may be split into two groups à Segmented Flow Analyzers and Flow Injection Analyzers. Continuous flow analyzers transport reagents and samples continuously through the tubing and are mechanically simpler than robotic analyzers.

Robotic analyzers, or discrete analyzers, are computer-controlled requiring multiple moving parts that deliver reagents and samples to reaction vessels and the detector.

Why Do Laboratories Automate This Process?

Why spend money for an auto-analyzer to do what can be done manually without a high capital expense? The reason to automate is so that you can run more samples. Running more samples is the same as increasing your productivity. Having an instrument run samples for you decreases your labor costs. Having the instrument do all those boring mixings and shakings increase your day-to-day precision. This improves quality and helps with that QA/QC program.

It is all about running more samples, and this benefit from automation is immediately realizedEfficiency improves, giving you more time, and the added time enables you to run more samples.

What Chemistries Can Be Automated?

Almost any method that can be done manually can be automated. Instruments can do digestions, distillations, dilutions, and filtrations for you. More importantly, is that these methods are always duplicated precisely, ensuring that quality control procedures are met.

The automated instrument always does the same regardless of who turns it on. It works day and night without getting tired.

What is the Difference Between SFA and FIA?

The fundamentalDifferencee between SFA and FIA is air/gas segmentation. SFA occurs when an injection gas segments the flow stream; the injection gas increases sample dispersion and cross-contamination while promoting turbulent mixing of samples and reagents. SFA can achieve lower detection limits and works for more complex methods. FIA is when the sampleis loaded into a sample loop, then injected into the flowing stream; FIA has the advantage of higher sample throughput but sacrifices detection limits and the ability to handle more complex methods.

OI Analytical is pleased to offer continuous flow analyzers that accommodate every lab’s application and budget. Let’s take a look at the key differences between our products, so you can determine which product best fits your needs.

FS3700 Continuous Flow Analyzer

As an industry leader in cyanide analysis, the FS3700 combines the advantages of Segmented Flow Analysis (SFA) and Flow Injection Analysis (FIA) technologies in one complete system. While defeating the hassle of individual technologies, the FS3700 simultaneously reduces wasted resources and improves laboratory safety. The FS3700 pairs with FlowView, which is an extremely intuitive software interface with 64-bit compatibility.

CNSolution 9310 Online Analyzer

The OI Analytical CNSolution™ 9310 Online Cyanide Analyzer is designed to measure available cyanide in precious metal leaching solutions by USEPA Method OIA-1677 and ASTM D 6888-09. The gas-diffusion amperometry technique in these methods has been demonstrated to be free of interferences from copper and metallic sulfides that impair the accuracy of traditional techniques such as titration.
