Job Description
The Product Manager communicates product vision from the highest levels of executive leadership to development and implementation teams. The Product Manager applies knowledge of the company’s Laboratory products to provide sales and marketing staff with the information and guidance it needs to compete effectively in the market place and for service staff to provide optimal support to customers.  The Product Manager supports Sales, Service, and Research & Development to promote existing company technology into current and new target markets and to develop new products and applications.  The Product Manager is involved in all aspects of the product lifecycle and investigates, selects, and drives the development of products for the organization​.

Job Specifications and Work Performed    

  • Develop customer centric product definitions and strategies based on VOC and the strategic needs of the business
  • Work with R&D to define and prioritize new product development projects
  • Forecast and business planning– analyze market trends and input from sales teams for input to operations forecast process
  • Work with the marketing team to develop and implement strategic marketing plans to promote products through various channels.
  • Develop technical marketing materials (content) for launch kits, presentations, sales tools, web content and webinars.
  • Developing and implementing a company-wide go-to-market plan, working with all departments to execute.
  • Develop the annual worldwide sales objective (quota) for the Laboratory equipment product lines, as a component of the Annual Business Plan, with participation from the Domestic and International Sales Managers. 
  • Driving a solution set across development teams (primarily Development/Engineering, and Marketing Communications) through market requirements, product content, and positioning.
  • Develop and maintain a competitive assessment of the product lines, including comparisons of product features, benefits, price performance, and market share.
  • Develop and maintain a market assessment for the product line, including characterization of major domestic/international market segments, applications, opportunities, customer requirements, and trends. 
  • Develop and maintain product development/improvement requirements.  Document and communicate.  Utilize feedback from customer, the sales organization, etc. to help define, justify, and prioritize immediate and future needs.
  • Routinely visit customers, via travel with sales managers, representatives, etc. to development personal understanding of customer/market issues/opportunities, build rapport with sales personnel, develop relationships with key customers and regulatory agencies, and assist in the selling process, as needed.
  • Participate in relevant trade organizations, etc. to promote OI interests, influence future market direction, build relationships with industry leaders, and enhance OI’s image in the marketplace.
  • Audit product quality and customer satisfaction.  Work with the Service Manager and Quality Assurance Manager to identify/correct quality problems and minimize warranty expenses.

Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering or Chemistry required.  Advanced degree in Chemistry preferred.
  • Prior product management, marketing and/or managerial experience
  • Minimum 5 years direct and relevant experience in analytical instrumentation industry.

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Ability to communicate with an influence multiple levels of the organization
  • Solid Hands on Project Management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and drive execution in a matrix organization.
  • Must be a strategic thinker, hands-on problem solver that possesses a high level of energy, integrity and can lead and have a strong impact on the business working with other levels of senior management in a multi-culture environment.
