water monitoring vehicles

Date: May 13, 2021

Time: 1:00 pm EDT

Almost any outdoor application that requires a YSI or SonTek sensor (or both!) can collect more data, safer, faster and with less expense by deploying sensors on a vehicle platform. YSI collaborated with global experts to design the HYCAT, i3XO and rQPOD vehicles. These platforms can go anywhere, carrying not only our sensors but also side scan sonar, advanced DVL, and more.

Our vehicle platforms are used for applications such as:

  • Bathymetric and hydrographic surveys of reservoirs
  • Investigating bridge scour
  • Search and rescue missions
  • Seagrass mapping
  • Harmful algal bloom dynamics
  • Discharge measurements
  • Locating unexploded ordnance

YSI's experts Tom Goucher, Shawn Sneddon and Nick Martin will each introduce the features of the HYCAT, i3XO and rQPOD using real-world case studies. The 45 minute webinar will be followed by a 15 minute panel discussion moderated by Dr. Stephanie A. Smith, and which will only be available to live attendees. Please come with your questions and application concepts for discussion!

Meet the presenters:

Tom Goucher

Tom has worked for YSI for 18 years with a focus on systems design and integration. His various roles within the organization include R&D, Sales, and now Marketing. In his current role as Product Manager for the Integrated Systems & Services division, he helps drive the technology roadmap for future Systems and Services offerings.

Shawn Sneddon

Shawn has over 12 years of experience in the Oceanographic and Water Quality field designing, integrating, and deploying a vast array of real-time monitoring systems with a heavy focus on custom system integration. After taking over the autonomous vehicle fleet in 2015, Shawn is now one of the lead engineers for all things autonomous: Performing hydrographic surveys, trainings, customer/sales support, and demos for customer applications.

Nick Martin

Nick has over 20 years of experience with acoustic instrumentation site survey, installation, training and troubleshooting. He began his career with Xylem Analytics UK as an Acoustic Service Engineer providing supporting and field services to acoustic instrumentation. He is now a Hydrologist and serves as UK Product Support for SonTek Instrumentation. He recently developed the rQPOD remote controlled boat, which has allowed bathymetric and water quality surveying to be simplified to reduce the need for personnel on the water.
