The data says yes: cross-river discharge and water quality measurement at Mississippi scale

The data says yes: cross-river discharge and water quality measurement at the Mississippi scale

Join us on Wednesday, May 6th at 9:00 am (PDT) for a behind-the-scenes case study on how our team successfully measured discharge and water quality on the Mississippi—using an autonomous platform. We’ll share what it takes to collect trustworthy data on a river of this scale, from planning the transect to handling real-world conditions and turning measurements into confident, defensible results.

You’ll see how the SonTek-M9 ADCP, Surfbee autonomous surface vehicle, and YSI EXO worked together to deliver complementary flow and water-quality insights—creating a more complete picture of one of America’s most iconic, hard-working rivers. If you’re a hydrographer or water monitoring professional looking to modernize field workflows while keeping data quality front and center, this session is for you

Our presenters:

Dr. Xue Fan, SonTek Senior Application Engineer

Dr. Xue Fan joined SonTek in 2015 and brings deep expertise in ADCP deployment, training, and real-world field validation. She helps test and refine SonTek’s newest technologies alongside leading hydrologic and oceanographic agencies to ensure performance where it matters most—in the field. She holds a Ph.D. in Physical Oceanography from Scripps Institution of Oceanography.

Shawn Sneddon, Xylem Systems Engineer

Shawn has over 18 years of experience in the Oceanographic and Water Quality field, designing, integrating, and deploying a wide range of real-time monitoring systems, with a heavy focus on custom system integration. After taking over the autonomous vehicle fleet in 2015, Shawn is now one of the lead engineers for all things autonomous: Performing hydrographic surveys, training, customer/sales support, and demos for customer applications.

Evan Leahy, Surfbee Lead Product & Sales Engineer

Evan Leahy is a qualified hydrographer and product leader at Surfbee, driving the evolution of Surfbee’s uncrewed vessels for hydrologic and hydrographic workflows. Drawing on years in the water industry, he helped design systems to reduce deployment risk and friction—while adding autonomous features like position hold that matter in the field. In this webinar, he’ll share how Surfbee integrates with ADCPs such as the SonTek M9 and RS5 to support safer, more repeatable data collection.
