MISSION: WATER 16 SURFACE WATER MISSION: WATER STAFF 2017 was a year of destroying records, homes, communities, wildlife, and so much more in the state of California. The lack of precipitation – combined with the excessive, but necessary use of the state’s groundwater supply – resulted in a dangerous combination of drought conditions and water shortage. Warmer temperatures and low humidity only added fuel to the fire. Once-stunning landscapes and communities were burned to ash as devastating wildfires spread across the region.
